Ahh the board game cupboard (or game area of your home wherever that may be). The arch nemesis of every home…a great area to have but ALWAYS a mess! I finally had enough and tackled this hidden mess of our home. It ended up being an afternoon project, got a little messy at first but oh so worth it!
First step is to gather your supplies:
- I ordered zipper pouches from Amazon. 1 set of these https://amzn.to/3iOFYHC and 2 sets of these https://amzn.to/3ITYN6T. (I highly recommend taking inventory of your games before you order… and see how big they are when they are not in the box)
- I used a laminator to make the tags. (I have this one)
- Small Zip Ties
- Color Printer (we have the eco tank and it’s so economical)
Once all your supplies are gathered, it’s time to get busy! First step is empty the cupboard and categorize them. I basically tried to put them in stacks based on the type of game or pieces in it to help me decide what size of bag they needed. (i.e. board games, card games, puzzle & dice games)
Now remove them from the boxes and place them in the appropriate sized bag. Now ditch that ripped up, bulky cardboard box (but make sure you recycle them).
As I emptied the boxes and moved them into their new homes I created a label on the computer so I could keep inventory of the games we had. It saved time on the back end doing it as I went. Here is a link to a document with the labels I made to get you started
I just googled each game and found an image of the box. The ones I couldn’t find I snapped a picture of the box before I discarded it.
Now print the labels out, cut them out, laminate them and cut them out again 🙂
Hole punch them and zip tie them onto zipper pull of each pouch.
Then file fold them in the cupboard where you can see all the labels. Easy to find and mind blowing how much bulk there is when you have all those carboard boxes. I never realized how much extra space there is the box of a board game.
I have noticed that having the games organized has allowed the kids to play them more, it’s easier to keep clean (no more avalanche of boxes) and the kids have played games they haven’t played in ages because they can see them now!
Happy organizing friends and make sure you tag me when you share on Instagram! I want to see it!
