Did you know most commercial baking powder has aluminum added to it? WHAT?!?! WHY?!?! Aluminum isn’t even needed for baking purposes and solely helps with anti-clumping. I don’t know about you, but I will take clumpy baking soda over aluminum any day!
Just give it a little shake before using it and you’re good to go!
The crazy part is it is SOOOO easy to make your own too…aluminum free to boot! So without further ado, here is the recipe and instructions. Don’t blink or you might miss it!
Mix the follwing in a jar with a lid:
2 parts cream of tartar
1 part baking soda
1 part startch (Corn, arrowroot, potatoe etc.)
for those of you bad at math let me break it down for ya….
For a small batch that’s 2 Tablespoon cream of tartar, 1 Tablespoon baking soda & 1 Tablespoon cornstarch. \
Phew we did it!
If this recipe is still overwhelming for you, you can buy aluminum free baking powder at the store. Just read your labels people!
I buy cream of tartar in the bulk food bins and always have some on hand. That way when the baking mood hits I am ready…no need to borrow baking powder…I mean sugar from the neighbor.
